BEST LOVE SONGS!!!!

This is a list of what i consider to be the best love songs. This list isn't exclusively about promises of love...breakup songs are love songs or at least songs related to love...the end of it!

So in no particular order.......DRUM ROLES PLEASE..........

NAT KING COLE-ORANGE COLOURED SKY (appears on the album The World of Nat King ColeNat "KingCole)
This is a brillant song, first time i heard it i was listening to music (that my best pal had given me) in TEA SPOT (a tea house in nairobi CBD) n i couldnt stop smilling. It took me to the old type of cartoons, you kbnow the cartoons that were actually cartoons....TOM AND JERRY,TOP CAT etc. Those scenes where  they were in the nightclub or when one of the men feel for the hot Marlyn Monroe inspired feline. Thsi song has a happy-go-lucky feel to it. Its a fusion of show tune, broadway and jazz served HOOOTT! you can tell hes fallen n fallen hard n he has no control of it.....like we ever do.The song actually end swith him saying......"WOW I THOUGHT LOVE WAS MUCH SOFTER THAN THAT, WHAT A MOST DISTURBING SOUND."

AMEL LARRIEUX- IF I WERE A BELL (in the album LOVELY STANDARDS 2007) oriiginally by MILES DAVIS IN the  album Relaxin' with the Miles Davis Quintet.

This is a very soulful jazz piece. Very relaxed, very simple...as we all want love to be. Don't know y but this track feels very Disney to me some scene where the girls daydreaming about her "knight and shining amour" I love the similes....it just taps into ones imagination and brings the song to life. You can just picture her DING DONG DINGING

MACY GRAY- SWEET BABY (from the ALBUM THE ID featuring LAURYN HILL)

The video for this song is what got me hooked all those many years ago. Check it out on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJdh3oNa0bc

The message in the song is another factor that puts this song on my list. Its dreamy ( I love you now and ever) but still factual (sweet baby life is crazy) i also like the dramatic scene in the video when she grabs her kid from him....so KENYAN. The icing on the cake is her raspy voice....raw, real and in your face just like love.

LUCY PEARL- YOU (album LUCY PEARL featuring SNOOP DOGG and Q-TIP)

I'm not the kind of person who loves a song for the beats but these beats, as simple and monotonous as they seem are beautiful and flow beautifully with RAPHAEL'S voice and how ingenious they are because they've incorporated clapping. The lyrics are sweet (he wrote a new commandment/After he was through). But the chorus is what makes this song its just the whole package and as i mentioned before....simple. Snoop and Q do a brilliant job shocked they, especially snoop, didn't curse after every two words.

AMY WINEHOUSE- LOVE IS A LOSING GAME (album LOVE IS A LOSING GAME)

Its 3:43 mins long and its 3:43 mins too short. A strumming guitar,a soulful voice and realistic words. This song has so much weight in it. you can tell that she was once hurt, that love hurt her.

She doesn't seem bitter, its like reality hit her, hard, and she's accept it (Though I'm rather blind/Love is a fate resigned), shes accepted that if she ever falls in love again she'l lose. This song reminds me of LAURYN HILL'S MTV UNPLUGGED ALBUM the acoustic feel is close especially with the song IT'S JUST LIKE THE WATER.

FERGIE-FINALLY (album THE DUTCHESS)
It also has a very disney feel toit. very fairytale. One gets the feeling that she's found him and shes content. The song is a story from when her life was imperfect before him to when she screwed up things when he came along and now shes FINALLY has accepted him...them...even Though we will have a different set. Its about the imperfection we all have and how a lover gives you the tools to heal yourself...to be content. Check out this american idol 2008 performance with JOHN LEGEND(perfect combination) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6Eglp2hYYU

KANYE WEST- ALL FALLS DOWN (album COLLEGE DROPOUT featuring SYLEENA JOHNSON)

This is one of my favourite songs. If i could walk down the aisle to this song i would.....come to think of it i just might. Its the 16th track in this album, the best album ever. LAURYN HILL passed the chance to chance to feature in this song, too bad for her because SYLEENA did a brilliant job. Ive heard lauryn's version and it ain't good at all...its off MTV UNPLUGGED.
Have a listen to it:

but he don't even know my name.
(andre 3000)i know she think i think she just some kinda hoe
i don't give a sh!t about giving it up on the first night
that just let me know, she know what she want outta life
what a hell of a god damn way to wake up
ooh that sh!t was good
maybe she'll get me some breakfast
she so goddamn sweet, sweet as she wanna be
ooh i just wanna lay in her hair
you can't fall for her, don't fall for it you can't fall for it ice cold
(voice)ice cold
(andre 3000)maybe i'll just roll over and lay on her booty
yeah naw naw naw now just lay here and be cool ice cold
(voice)ice cold
(andre 3000)what what what if she's the one

This song, if you'd call it that, is on the list because of its originallity, honesty, rawness and the c that he says what what what if she's the one.  this is not a line you except to here from a dude.

ANTHONY HAMILTON-COOL (album THE POINT OF IT ALL)

I love this song because its my idea of a perfect relationship......for most of us id guess.....STRESSFREE. a COOL relationship, you are just how you are.

The video is simple other than the really ridiculous part when they decide to jump start the car in a thunderstorm....really!!!!!!!

ATEMI-SOMEDAY (album-HATIMAYE)

BEAUTIFUL!! BEAUTIFUL!! BEAUTIFUL!!

The African vibe, simplicity, romance and similes in this song make me melancholic.

The mix of Swahili and English AND of the male and female voices are perfect.

Theres this feel of possible impossibility. a fairytale in real life!

BABYFACE-WHEN CAN I SEE YOU AGAIN (album-FACE TO FACE)

This song has the classic 90s feel. the snapping fingers and guitar feel. I LOOOOVE IT!

The lyrics are soo sad and this is emphasized by his voice, You just feel like he really needs to SEE HER AGAIN, like it isnt really a request but a demand...a desparate demand.

I guess this song is in this list due to its desparation because to me thats a part of any form of love. The desparation to be with someone, to have company, to feel needed.....to get him/her back.

BEYONCE-FLAWS AND ALL (album-B-DAY)

THIS SONG AND THIS VIDEO ARE WHO I AM IN EVERY WAY!!! i am my FLAWS AND ALL........nd arent these flaws a handful.

listen and watch the video and i hope you'll get it:

v for vendetta (the movie)

"he was my father, my mother, my brother...my friend. he was you and me. he was all of us"

This line by EVEY at th eend of the film is what proved to that i'd just watched the MOVIE OF ALL MOVIES. Id been told of this movie perfetion from its release but from experience i tend not to take anyones opinion on movies.(had been told LORD OF THE RINGS 1 was the longest most boring movie ever so i never bothered watching it then years later i stumbled upon it and decided what the hell. Wasnt i shocked how brilliant it was.) So this year (yes this year...4years after its release) when i watched it i loved it...no....i ADORED IT!

Unlike other masked hero you never find out who he is....because it doesnt matter....because

"we are told to remeber the idea not the man beacuse a man can fail, he can be caught, he can be killed and forgotten, but 400 years later an idea can still change the world" (EVEY 01:16 INTO THE MOVIE)

We watch batman, superman and all these superheroes and we fall in love with them...there looks...there outfits...there love affairs...there weapons and there power. But V has no looks (a man with simply one expression), has no outfit (just a blackrob n hat), has no love affair, has only a sword and the power of an idea the idea that

"People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people." (V)

It doesnt matter who he is

Evey Hammond: Who are you?

V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what and what I am is a man in a mask.
Evey Hammond: Well I can see that.
V: Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of observation I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is.

MOVIES INSPIRATION:

v is inspired by Guy Fawkes (13 April 1570 – 31 January 1606), also known as Guido Fawkes, the name he adopted while fighting for the Spanish in the Low Countries. He belonged to a group of Catholic restorationists from England who planned the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Their aim was to displace Protestant rule by blowing up the Houses of Parliament while King James I, the entire Protestant, most of the Catholic, aristocracy and nobility were inside. The conspirators saw this as a necessary reaction to the systematic discrimination against English Catholics.

The Gunpowder Plot was led by Robert Catesby, but Fawkes was put in charge of its execution. He was arrested a few hours before the planned explosion, during a search of the cellars underneath Parliament in the early hours of 5 November prompted by the receipt of an anonymous warning letter.

Guy Fawkes Night (or "bonfire night"), held on 5 November in the United Kingdom and some parts of the Commonwealth, is a commemoration of the plot, during which an effigy of Fawkes is burned, often accompanied by a fireworks display. The word "guy", meaning "man" or "person", is derived from his name.

There's a post i read that condemed the message within the film. That the main idea within the movie, the idea V stood for was that the government was against homosexuality (represented by STEVEN FRY'S "gay jay leno" character and the character named valarie who were killed because they were gay) and that homosexuals areterrorists who retaliated by bombing parliament and i quote:

"The message in the movie is clear, persecute homosexuals or criticize their lifestyles and they will destroy your institutions and blow up your buildings. Looks like a terrorist threat to me. Somebody should notify Homeland Security so that they can install "gay" scanners in our airports."

This is, in my opinion, a very narrow minded subjective way to look at this film (not supirsing the person who wrote it was homosexual). Dont get me wrong im not supporting or condemning homosexuals but i do not think this movie was spreading an anti-gay opinion. i believe that the movie expressed the fact that governmnents, or people in authority, have the ability to be biased. If they do not agree with a certain way of life, be it interms of sexuality, race or sex, they resort to violence, they feed off our fears. Thus the message, the idea within the movie is that we the people have more strength than we are made to believe we have....it wasnt about v taking action and bombing parliament it was about the people understaning that they had power, that they could mobilize, that they could stand up to the government as one......that could be one!!!

Was shocked when i found out that V is AGENT SMITH from the MATRIX(hands down the best villan after the joker in dark night), HUGO WEAVING is definately a brilliant actor.

And the relationship he and natalie portman have in the film is electrifying.....pure perfect!

zawadi

Zawadi is the swahili word for gift. so what a better word to title this blog....gift! Dictionary.com defines it as "something given voluntarily without payment in return" thus i voluntarily write down my thoughts, my feelings and my emotions so you may read them...so you may understand and share, but most of all so you may appreciate. These unfortunately, or fortunately may be the only payment id would desire to have in return.

For a really long time ive been contemplating what id share ant today i decided it doesnt matter. in the words of nike i decided to "JUST TO IT" that is officially the mantra for this blog
